Here at CollegeCounts, we love helping parents and their students achieve the goal of a college education by saving in a CollegeCounts 529 account. Luckily for you parents of high school students, we have a scholarship that can help achieve that goal as well!
The CollegeCounts Scholarship was created because we understand that many families depend on need-based scholarships as part of a financial aid package. If your student plans on attending an Alabama college or university in the fall of 2019, and they’re able to demonstrate financial need, they may be eligible for a CollegeCounts Scholarship. Awards of $4000 are available for students enrolling in four-year colleges, and awards of $2000 are available for students enrolling in two-year colleges.
For three consecutive years, we’ve awarded over $1 million in scholarship funds to eligible high school students from all over the state, and we plan to keep that streak going this year.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be scholarship eligible:
• Must be a high school senior or first-time college freshman beginning fall of 2019
• Must be planning to enroll in an eligible Alabama educational institution
• Must be able to demonstrate financial need
• Must be an Alabama resident
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75
• Must have a maximum ACT score of 26 (unless attending a two-year school)
If your student meets these requirements, then go and get started on that application! The form will close at midnight the night of February 28.
And in case you’re wondering, no, your student isn’t required to have a CollegeCounts 529 account to apply. (We certainly recommend having one, though!)
The CollegeCounts Scholarship application can be found here. Best of luck in your final semester of high school, students!
